The East Mississippi Community College men’s and women’s basketball teams are returning to play in a little more than a week.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Lions announced their 2021 schedule, composed entirely of games against other schools in the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference.
EMCC’s men’s team will play 17 games, and the women’s squad will play 14. Both teams will play home-and-home series with each of the other six teams in the MACCC North division plus additional games with Northeast Mississippi Community College and Holmes Community College. The EMCC men will also face South division opponent Southwest Mississippi Community College for a home-and-home set in February. Additionally, the Lions men will play at Meridian Community College on Feb. 13.
The season openers for both the men’s and women’s teams are Jan. 21. The men will host Northwest Mississippi Community College, while the women travel to Senatobia to play the Rangers.
The Lions men’s and women’s teams both completed their seasons before the COVID-19 pandemic hit. The women won the state tournament, were upset by Northwest in their NJCAA Region 23 tournament opener and finished 24-3, while the men lost to Jones College in the first round of the state tournament and fell to Hinds Community College in the opening round of the Region 23 tourney. They finished 16-9.
