CARTERSVILLE, Ga. — Columbus” Johnny Stokes was one of many honored Saturday at the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Annual Awards Banquet.
Stokes was recognized as the West Region champion of the 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series.
The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series is a series designed for non-touring drivers that race at their home tracks during the season.
Ronnie Johnson, of Chattanooga, Tenn., earned the inaugural Bob Cross Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award. The award is named for Cross, passed away April 25, 2010, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
At 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Columbus Speedway, Magnolia Motor Speedway, and PRO Dirt Car Series will hold the Night of Champions at the Trotter Convention Center in downtown Columbus.
Tickets are $25 per person and will include a dinner of an appetizer, grilled chicken, baked beans, potato salad, slaw, rolls, and dessert.

n In related news, Columbus Speedway will play host to the “Racin” for Life 200″ United Speed Contest Sanction (USCS) Enduro Race for strictly stock cars at 2 p.m. March 5.
The 200-lap race will benefit the American Cancer Society Relay For Life charity.
Stokes and the USCS” Pete Walton are trying to bring racing back to an affordable level with plenty of fun and entertainment for competitors and racing fans. Based on 45, entries the event will pay an eye-popping $3,000 to win.
