A Friday morning pursuit involving authorities from Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, Columbus Police Department and the departments’ combined drug task force ended with the arrest of the driver, but not before the suspect reportedly threw a package of marijuana out the window of the Chevy Tahoe he was driving.
The driver, Columbus resident Rodriguez Dismuke, 47, faces charges of felony eluding law enforcement and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, according to a press release from the drug task force.
The press release said the pursuit began at about 10:30 a.m. when a narcotics agent attempted a traffic stop near the intersection of 10th Avenue South and 14th Street and Dismuke did not pull over.
For the next 15, officers pursued Dismuke through south Columbus, between 13th Street South and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The marijuana Dismuke allegedly threw out the window was recovered near the intersection of 13th Street and 11th Avenue South.
Authorities were able to block the Tahoe in on a congested street on Washington Avenue, the press release said. According to LCSO Capt. Archie Williams, commander of the drug task force, narcotics agents recovered about $3,000 worth of cash from the vehicle.
As of Friday afternoon, Dismuke’s bond had not been set.
