A second suspect wanted in connection with an incident during which shots were fired last month at Brookville Gardens was arrested late last week in Clay County.
Detectives from the Starkville Police Department last week received a tip 33-year-old Kenneth Lurshon Pittman, aka Shawn Pittman, of Starkville, was hiding at a residence on Pheba-Beasley Road in Pheba. The SPD and Clay County Sheriff”s Office then executed a search warrant Thursday at 6 a.m. and located Pittman in a closet, hiding under a pile of dirty clothes, according Starkville police.
Pittman was arrested without incident and transported to the Clay County Jail, where an arrest warrant for one count of burglary was executed. He was still being held on a $25,000 bond as of Monday morning.
Pittman and 26-year-old Sam West Lee, also of Starkville, each have been charged with burglary for the Aug. 15 incident at Brookville Gardens. Starkville police were dispatched to Brookville Gardens that night for a report of shots fired.
Nobody was injured in the incident, but police did discover at least five shots had been fired into an apartment, and the apartment door had been kicked in as the suspects attempted to reach one of the residents inside.
Because the suspects entered the apartment illegally, they were charged with burglary. Lee was arrested Aug. 31 and posted a $50,000 bond.
Additional charges may be filed pending the results of crime lab tests, SPD Sgt. Chadd Garnett said.
