It''s a great week to be a Bulldog.
The university is celebrating Homecoming this week. The maroon and white are riding a three-game winning streak, including a signature win over the University of Florida last week.
The Florida victory put State in the top 25 for the first time since 2001. Bulldog fans can say only 23 football teams in the nation rank higher.
That''s better than That School Up North can say. The Rebels are unranked. There''s confusion and anger over their mascot choices. In Starkville, the Bulldog still commands widespread acceptance.
There''s also widespread acceptance of Coach Dan Mullen, who deserves much praise for bringing new energy to the Bulldogs that seems to grow with each passing game.
There''s more to Homecoming than football, however. Events have been taking place on campus all week. Excitement will hit a fever pitch on Friday, when there will be a parade at 5 p.m. The parade begins at Nash Street and University Drive, heading east through the Cotton District and onto campus before ending at the Amphitheater.
A pep rally follows at 5:30 in the Junction.
We urge all fans to get out and support the Bulldogs. We also remind Bulldog fans that there is a way to give back. The university''s Student Association is holding a canned food drive this week. Drop-offs include the Union Room 314, the United Way office on Louisville Street, and in dorm lobbies. The food will benefit the Adopt-A-Family program.
We congratulate the Bulldogs'' success, and wish them luck this weekend against University of Alabama-Birmingham. We also thank those who are sharing their own success with those who are less fortunate.

You mean its a great year to be a Bulldog. 9 out of the last 10 year the Bullfrauds have a losing record. To add that the Rebels aren't ranked, wow, that's good news to, pathetic? Sounds like little brother syndrom again. I hope you guys actually make a bowl game this year. A bowl every decade is healthy for the Bulldog football program. Good luck School Beneath Us.

I don't know who wrote this editorial (doesn't seem like your usual style), but it is pretty offensive to Ole Miss fans. This fish wrap is getting worse by the minute. When we won back to back Cotton Bowls we didn't get any praise, which I understand, but why would you write provocative trash like that? I can see why you're losing readership.
