JACKSON — A federal appeals court has upheld the drug conviction of a Lowndes County man.
Cedric Calmes of Columbus was convicted by a federal grand jury of sale of narcotics, possession of a firearm in the commission of a crime and unlawful transport of a firearm.
He was sentenced in 2014 to 15 years in prison.
Calmes was one of three people arrested in a 2011 drug raid. Authorities seized seven ounces of cocaine, 1.7 pounds of marijuana, a .45 caliber handgun and over $9,000 cash from a Columbus home.
Calmes argued the information used to prove the need for a warrant was not sufficient and was based on unreliable information provided by an informant.
A three-judge panel of the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Friday denied those claims.
