Myisha Shelton and Inez Harris set to work on their dream in early February with the opening of Our Place Southern Style Cooking.
The restaurant opened Feb. 6 at 2012 14th Ave. N. in the former Blevins Smile-a-While location. Shelton has 25 years of experience in food service and restaurant management, and earned culinary and business degrees from Mississippi University for Women.
Our Place serves a “meat-and-three” lunch menu that changes from day to day. The fare is best described as soul food. Pig’s feet are on the menu on Wednesdays and chitterlings on Fridays.
Harris initially noticed the location for sale and brought Shelton around to taking the plunge into her dreams.
“I’ve wanted to open a restaurant for 20 years,” Shelton said. “I may have never started without Inez.”
The restaurant is open 6 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sundays. Delivery is available.
